The My Voice Project team were delighted to be invited to the recent UCL Centre for Holocaust Education’s Beacon School Residential Conference in Manchester, where they delivered a presentation on the project and its significant impact on Holocaust education.

The event was attended by fifteen teachers from the Beacon School Project, with UCL represented by Corey Soper and Andrew Copeland.

Juliette Pearce, My Voice Project Manager, opened the session by explaining the origins of the initiative. My Voice Educational Adviser, Dr Diane Popescu, then described the project’s methodology within the context of survivor testimony and highlighted its unique features.

Teachers were invited to read aloud extracts from the My Voice collection, forming a loose chronology of the Holocaust through various survivors’ reflections. In total, fifteen extracts from twelve My Voice books were shared.

Sarah Fern, Head of History at Marple Hall School, concluded the presentation by describing how she has incorporated five My Voice stories into a Holocaust scheme of work, and the powerful impact this has had on her students.

The My Voice Project continues to explore further collaboration with UCL to ensure that the unique, first-person, whole-life testimonies of My Voice Survivor Storytellers are integrated into Holocaust curricula nationwide.
