On Tuesday August 20, 2024 THE FED’s My Voice storyteller Anne Super met eight Anne Frank Trust Ambassadors at the Manchester Jewish Museum. The Ambassadors, aged between 10 and 14, came from Leeds, Haslington, Bolton and Cumbria.
Anne read selected passages from her book and the Ambassadors, who had previously learned about her life and experiences, asked insightful questions. Following this, they learned further about Jewish history and culture by touring the museum and synagogue.
Anne described her difficult childhood- she never knew her parents who were murdered when she was 3; she was cared for by various people but never felt loved.
She maintains her positive outlook by engaging with the world – gardening, enjoying her pets, reading, music – and takes pleasure each morning when she draws her curtains and looks down at her garden.
The schoolchildren and staff alike were inspired by Anne’s resilience, humour and warmth.
Sharon Hattersley from The Anne Frank Trust, commented how “Anne’s resilience and desire to say yes to as many adventures as possible inspired many of us to work on being more resilient ourselves and to say yes to as many opportunities as we can”
The young Ambassadors talked about “looking for the beauty in everything in life, finding the good and trying to be positive”.
