We officially launched our London partnership with Yad Vashem UK yesterday (July 10, 2024) at JW3 with the presentation of three new Holocaust Survivor Storyteller books.
Ivor Wieder’s book “Where Was G-d In Auschwitz”, Harry Olmer’s book “My Revenge On Hitler Is My Family” and Jackie Young’s book “Lost And Waiting To Be Found” were presented to each of them and extracts from each were read out.
Also present at the launch were Survivors Lydia Tischler, Susan Pollack, Rachel Levy, Barbara Frankiss, Kurt Marx and Jacques Weisser who also have their My Voice Life Storybooks in production alongside a further 14 Survivors from Jewish Care’s Holocaust Survivor Centre.
Bernie Yaffe, The Fed’s Chair welcomed guests and took the opportunity to explain its 150+ year history as one of the leading Jewish charities in the UK and thanked the National Heritage Lottery Fund for its ongoing support of My Voice. He was followed by Juliette Pearce, the My Voice Project Manager and Lauren Libbert, the My Voice London Lead who spoke about the history of the project, what makes it so unique, the future plans for Holocaust education and awareness and also paid tribute to the amazing volunteers who give of their time as befrienders, editors, researchers and photographers.
Raphi Bloom, The Fed’s Fundraising and Marketing Director closed the event by saying “All of us here, since Oct 7, appreciate more than ever just how crucial Holocaust education is. It is our desire that My Voice plays a significant part in this and works in close collaboration and partnership with other organisations, so we ensure that these incredible stories do not just sit on bookshelves and coffee tables and gather dust but are used to strengthen education and awareness across the country. That commitment is the solemn promise we made to each of the My Voice Survivor Storytellers and is also our duty to the Jewish community and society as a whole.”
We were also delighted to be joined by March of the Living, HMDT, AJR, Holocaust Survivors Centre, HET, Wiener Holocaust Library, Anne Frank Trust and Learning from the Righteous and we thank them for their support and look forward to future collaboration on our shared mission of Holocaust education and remembrance.
