Review of The Witches of the Glass Castle

The main character, sixteen year old Mia and her seventeen year old brother Dino, discover that they are witches and are sent to the Glass Castle where they can explore their new found powers. While there, Mia finds out what her special skill is from a very unlikely person and Dino's quest for answers results in some unforeseen dangers.
We like this book because it is easy to read and the story kept surprising us with new twists. There are some really unexpected character revelations and we found ourselves wanting to read more. This book is good for those who like fantasy stories but want a break from vampires.

Her heart was beating furiously. Everything seemed eerie like it should be in some sort of horror movie. From a distance the gate was as black as her raven-wing hair and the mist like her paper white skin. The reaching branches grabbed at her as she tiptoed past; her footsteps loud in the dark silence.

A howl pierced the night and so did a scream. It took her a while to realise it was hers. After, her throat was dry. There's something out there, she thought, and it's hunting me down.
